October 31, 2010- Weekly Reminders

Parents/Guardians- I apologize for no post going up last week. I had it all typed out and it was set to Auto Publish, but for some reason it didn't work! I will do a better of job of making sure that the posts are up and running!!! I also have lots of pictures to share from our High Touch High Tech in school field trip!

Monday- P.E. Day (don't forget your sneakers!!!) Homework packets are sent home for the week. Please be sure that your child brings their AR book back to school with them on Monday! They all got to choose books last Friday, and are expected to take their test on Friday. We will be having a pizza party in the afternoon to celebrate winning the Math Game last week. Deputy Ikner is providing pizza for the class. :-)

Tuesday- Report Card Pick Up from 3-7. Please plan to stop by so that you can receive the grades from the 1st nine weeks. There will also be different tables set up for our Health & Wellness Fair.

Wednesday- Chapter 2 Mid-Chapter Checkpoint in Math; Weekly folders will be sent home

Thursday- Reading Assessment

Friday- Spelling Test, Narrative Writing Assessment

Reading Focus- We are reading the 4th story in our unit, "What Rot! Nature's Mighty Recycler" This story focuses on why rotting is important, and how if things didn't rot it would be bad for our environment.

Writing Focus- We are working on Narrative writing. The students will have their narrative assessment on Friday!

Math Focus- We are continuing in Chapter 2, which is all about Multiplication and Division concepts.
Science Focus- We are learning all about what scientists do.

St. Augustine: There are still spots available for our St. Augustine trip in May. Please get your deposit in ASAP so that I can reserve your spot!

Parent/Teacher Conferences: If we have not yet had a conference, please contact me so that we can meet!
 
LOOKING AHEAD: Daylight Savings Time is this weekend. Don't forget to "Fall Back" an hour.

October 16, 2011- Weekly Reminders

Tuesday- No announcements for today.

Wednesday- PICTURE DAY!!!!!!! Weekly folders will be sent home. Grade reports will be included. Please be sure the folders and grade reports are signed, and returned on Thursday! The monthly newsletter will also be included in this week's folder. Be sure to check out all of the great things that are going on around our school!

Thursday- High Touch/High Tech in school field trip- students will be digging for treasure and learning all about different types of gems! Multiplication assessment; Reading Test; PTO Meeting @ 6pm followed by Spooky Science Night! A light dinner will be served. I hope you cam join us for some fun Science activities!

Friday- End of the 1st nine weeks! Multiplication Test; Multiplication and Division concepts test; AR tests must be taken. New chapter books will be picked, and they should come home so that your child can get started on it

Reading Focus- We are reading the 2nd story in our new unit, "Energy Makes Things Happen." This week is all about learning how energy is transferred, and just where energy comes from.

Writing Focus- We are working on Narrative writing. The students will have their first narrative assessment on Thursday!

Math Focus- We are continuing in Chapter 2, which is all about Multiplication and Division concepts.

Science Focus- We are learning all about what scientists do.

St. Augustine: There are still spots available for our St. Augustine trip in May. Please get your deposit in ASAP so that I can reserve your spot!

FCAT Parent Night

Thank you so much to all of the parents who attended FCAT Parent Night last night!!! We hope you received lots of information that will help you help your child be successful this year! For those of you that were not able to make it, all of the information that we gave out last night will be sent hom in Wednesday folders today, so please take a look at that. There is also a parent survey that will be in there, and we would really appreciate it if you could fill it out and send it back in tomorrow! Please let me know if you would like any additional information, or need some clarification on the packet that is being sent home! A copy of the packet can be found here.

Some other files included in the packet were Sample prompts, a Narrative writing sample, and an Expository writing sample.

October 10, 2011- Weekly Reminders

Tuesday: FCAT Parent Night starting at 5:30. We will meet in the media center at 5:30, where we will go over all of the things you need to know in order to help your child be successful on the FCAT Reading, Writing, and Math tests this year. This session will be over at 6:15, and dinner will be served in the cafeteria. Please plan on attending this informative night!

Wednesday: Weekly folders will be sent home. No grade reports this week. Next week's reports will include the grades from the Reading benchmark test, and the Chapter 1 Math test.

Thursday: Wednesday folders are due.

Friday: Reading Test, Multiplication Test, AR tests must be taken. New chapter books will be picked, and they should come home so that your child can get started on it.

Reading Focus: This week we begin our 2nd unit in the Imagine It! series. This unit focuses on "Nature's Delicate Balance." We will be reading stories in the next 6 weeks that have to do with nature, and figuring out what role we play in nature. Our story this week is called "The Snowflake: A Water Cycle Story." It talks about a snowflake and it's journey through the steps of the water cycle. For a great interactive website on the water cycle, click here. The reading strategies we will focus on this week are Summarizing, Making Connections, and Sequencing. This week at home, try having your child summarize what they are reading in their chapter books after every few pages. Using this strategy consistently is a key to reading comprehension.

Math Focus: We will begin Chapter 2 this week: Multiplication and Division Concepts and Facts. Students will learn to relate multiplication and division, and make area models and arrays. Please look for the parent letter for Chapter 2 to be sent home with homework this week.

Writing Focus: We are working on Narrative writing. (Writing to tell a story). Students will learn to plan their writing around a BIG MOMENT, and begin to structure their paragraphs based on what happened just before, during, and just after the big moment they are writing about.

Science Focus: We are learning all about scientists and what they do.

St. Augustine: There are still spots available for our St. Augustine trip in May. Please get your deposit in ASAP so that I can reserve your spot!

Wednesday: Folders and Grade reports will be sent home; We will begin working on Narrative Writing (writing to tell a story)

Thursday: Students will take their Reading Benchmark Assessment

Friday: Homework packet is due; AR Test; Spelling Test

St. Augustine: If your child is attending the St. Augustine trip, please be sure to get your deposit in as soon as possible.
